Durban is poised for a major financial uplift this weekend, with the Nedbank Cup final between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates set to take place on May 10 at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The match is projected to bring in more than R93 million in direct economic benefits to the city.
The influx of fans from across the country is expected to significantly boost Durban’s transport, tourism, and hospitality industries.
Gugu Sisilana, spokesperson for the eThekwini Municipality, emphasised that high-profile sporting events play a crucial role in stimulating local economic growth and supporting the tourism sector.
To add to the celebratory mood and accommodate more spectators, the city has established public fan zones at Albert Park and along the beachfront, which are expected to further drive spending and visitor engagement.
