In a deeply emotional episode of her show “Timeline with LaConco,” media personality Nonkanyiso Conco, also known as LaConco, made a public appeal to her former partner, former President Jacob Zuma, asking him to apologise for the pain and unkept promises of their past relationship.
LaConco, in the second episode of her show, expressed her hurt and frustration, stating that Zuma had made numerous promises that were never fulfilled. She shared the emotional and financial impact of their split, revealing that she was left to rebuild her life from scratch after their breakup.
“I was in shock and denial and made excuses for him at first, but I eventually had to accept the reality and move back to my mother’s place in Matatiele,” LaConco said, reflecting on the aftermath of the breakup. She explained how the transition forced her to start over without the support she once had.
Since their split in 2018, LaConco revealed she has struggled emotionally, even seeking professional help. “I had to visit a mental health institution and consult with psychiatrists and psychologists to help reset my mind,” she confessed, adding that Zuma had stopped reaching out to her.
Further compounding her heartache, LaConco explained that Zuma has stopped answering her calls, leaving their child disappointed and longing to hear from him. Despite this, LaConco expressed respect for Zuma, particularly for paying lobola (bride price) for her.
While acknowledging the pain, LaConco emphasised that she has forgiven Zuma but still desires an apology for the emotional distress he caused. “I forgive you, JZ; I honestly do,” she said, though she made it clear that forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting. She stressed that she hoped for a genuine apology for the promises he made and failed to keep.
LaConco also addressed critics who accused her of dating Zuma for financial gain. “I gained nothing from that relationship,” she said, firmly denying those accusations.
Looking forward, LaConco expressed that although she does not regret the relationship, a heartfelt apology from Zuma would provide her with much-needed closure. She also suggested that Zuma might be influenced by negative forces surrounding him.
As of now, Zuma’s spokesperson, Jimmy Manyi, has yet to comment on LaConco’s statements, leaving many curious about how the former president will respond. LaConco’s emotional plea has resonated with many, shedding light on the pain caused by unfulfilled promises and broken relationships.
