Zimbabwe ended their four-year wait for a Test match victory with a hard-fought win over Bangladesh in Sylhet, thanks to a standout performance from pacer Blessing Muzarabani and a solid effort from the top order.
The hosts won the toss and chose to bat first, but Zimbabwe’s disciplined bowling attack, led by Muzarabani, restricted Bangladesh to just 191 runs in their first innings. Muzarabani was the star of the show, finishing the match with an impressive haul of nine wickets.
In response, Zimbabwe posted 273, earning a crucial 82-run first-innings lead. Bangladesh battled back in their second innings but could only manage a total that set Zimbabwe a target of 174 runs to win, with Muzarabani once again playing a key role in limiting the hosts’ progress.
With the pressure on in the final two sessions of Day 4, openers Brian Bennett and Ben Curran laid a strong foundation with an unbeaten 90-run stand. Despite a late fightback from Bangladesh, Zimbabwe held their nerve, eventually reaching the target with three wickets in hand.
Wessly Madhevere and Richard Ngarava guided the visitors home after a tense finish, sealing Zimbabwe’s first Test win since 2021 and sparking celebrations in the visitors’ camp
