The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has issued a public notice to all churches, reminding them of their tax obligations and announcing an upcoming stakeholder engagement to address compliance issues.

The meeting aims to promote transparency and ensure churches align with applicable tax regulations. Specific details about the date and venue of the event will be shared in due course.

ZIMRA clarified that income from donations, tithes, offerings, and non-trading receipts is exempt from income tax. However, income from trading activities, such as selling church-branded merchandise, books, or food, is taxable and may also attract Value Added Tax (VAT) if sales exceed specific thresholds.

Churches are urged to register for taxes, file outstanding returns promptly, and ensure full payment of taxes to avoid penalties. ZIMRA has set up self-service centers across the country to assist with compliance.
