Zimbabwe Republic Police Drug Crimes

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has intensified its crackdown on drug-related crimes, leading to the arrest of eight individuals for the illegal possession of dagga, crystal meth, and unregistered medicines.

The arrests, which took place in Harare and Beitbridge between March 2 and March 4, 2025, mark a significant step in the fight against drug trafficking in the country.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Mphakamiseni Dhlamini (41)
  • Ishmael Chikara (35)
  • Linda Jimu (26)
  • Privilege Muchenje aka Ndanatsei Muchenje (39)
  • Sylia Tanyanyiwa (41)
  • Simbarashe Maenzanise (41)
  • Siphelile Mashamba (33)
  • Alice Shatirwa (29)

Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing as law enforcement seeks to dismantle networks involved in the distribution of illicit substances.

The police operation resulted in the confiscation of a substantial amount of drugs and unregistered medicines, including:

  • 151 kilograms of dagga
  • 260 bottles of Broncleer Syrup (100 ml each)
  • An undisclosed quantity of crystal meth

A significant portion of the seized dagga was intercepted at the Beitbridge Border Post, raising concerns about cross-border drug smuggling operations.

The ZRP has reiterated its commitment to cracking down on drug-related crimes, warning traffickers and suppliers that they will face the full force of the law.

The arrests serve as a strong message to those engaged in illegal drug activities, particularly amid growing concerns about substance abuse in Zimbabwe.

Police are urging citizens to report any suspicious activities related to drug distribution, emphasising that community cooperation is essential in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.

The suspects remain in custody as they await their court appearances. More arrests and further investigations are expected as police intensify efforts to curb the illegal drug trade.
